Mold on Wood Removal & Testing

Mold problem? Call Moldman!

Description of Service

If you have mold on wood surfaces, Moldman can professionally remove it and ensure it does not return. With thousands of jobs of experience, we know exactly how to eliminate mold on wood and prevent it from returning.

Note: we also offer mold testing on wood too. However, if you have obvious visible mold, then mold testing is usually not necessary (and the EPA agrees with us). Why? Because all mold on any surface should be remediated and removed in the same way. Therefore, if you have obvious visible mold on a wood surface, in most cases we recommend skipping the mold test and applying the money saved towards actual mold remediation.

Causes of Mold on Wood

All mold requires a food source and a water source in order to elevate to abnormal levels. Wood is actually a food source for mold. The water source can be anything such as an obvious flood, plumbing leak or even just very high humidity. Mold can form in as little as 24-48 hours after a water event. Thus the key to mold control is moisture or water control.

Our Process to Remove Mold from Wood

There are many types of wood and some woods are easier to remove mold from than others. In addition, mold can stain wood and no amount of cleaning, or chemicals can completely eliminate the stains in some cases. Just know that they are just stains and not actual mold if the mold remediation is done properly.

Also, if you have mold on wood structural framing, the good news is that most of the time you do not replace the entire piece of moldy wood unless the wood is badly rotted from say prolonged water damage.

So anyway, what is our process for removing mold from your wood? Every situation is unique, but generally speaking, our mold remediation process for wood is as follows:

  1. Containment. This just means sealing off and containing the work area where the mold problem is located to prevent or limit the mold from spreading to other areas of your home or business where there is not a mold problem.

  2. HEPA Air Scrubbing. Here, we use air mover machines with HEPA air filters to clean the air and capture the mold spores in the air. HEPA filters can capture 99.97% of all airborne and microscopic mold spores which pass through the filters.

  3. Selective Demo. This is where we’d pull up the carpet to expose the pad that’s underneath.  We’d then bag and remove that nasty carpet pad.  It’s almost always the source of a “mold on carpet” problem.

  4. HEPA Vacuum. Here, we use vacuums with HEPA filters to  vacuum the work area to capture the mold spores on the visible surfaces.

  5. Antimicrobial Cleaning. This step involves detailed cleaning of the contaminated area with hospital-grade antimicrobial cleaning agents to kill mold growth.

  6. Final HEPA Vacuuming & Clean-Up of Work Area. We once again do HEPA vacuuming and perform an antimicrobial wipe-down on surfaces where mold spores may have settled within the work area.

  7. QC Check & Customer Sign-Off. In the final step, we do a detailed quality control check and do a walk through with the customer (when they are available) to go over the completed job. Once the customer signs off, we take down containment and clean up the work area.
